Dr. Therese Burns

Dr. Burns attended Michigan State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. She began working at Southkent Veterinary Hospital soon after graduation in 1999 and has been there ever since. She originally wanted to work with farm animals, but soon began practicing companion animal medicine and continued on with that. She also works with pocket pets (rats, mice, guinea pigs) and rabbits. She enjoys soft tissue surgery and performs many procedures weekly.

She has been a member of the West Michigan Veterinary Medical Association since graduation and was on the board of directors for 3 years, working her way up to President. She has also maintained membership with the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association since 1999. She was on the board of directors for 9 years, which included 5 years on the executive committee, and was President of the state association in 2014.

Personally, she has 3 sons, 1 daughter, 2 daughter-in-law’s and a granddaughter. She enjoys 2 dogs at home as well, but has had cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, aquarium fish, parakeets, a sunbird, rabbits, ducks, chickens, turkeys, deer, cows, pigs, horses and sheep.
